The end of the 2015 Hockey season

The closing fixtures for the 2015 hockey season were played during the last week and the various teams closed off their season in different manners:
The U14C lost to a very strong Kingswood U14 side; the U16D’s and 4ths also lost to strong Kingswood outfits.

The 3rd XI, once again, played attractive attacking hockey to beat their Kingswood opponents 3-1 on Wednesday.

The U14A had a very good 2-0 win against Dale on Friday, while the U16A could only finish with a 1-1 draw. The U16B’s lost 4-1 in a match which was a great deal closer than the score-line suggests, and the U16C had an exciting 3-3 draw with their Dale opposition.

The 2nd XI had a convincing 2-0 win against Victoria Park on Wednesday, and they also followed this up with another 2-0 win against dale on Friday.

The 1st XI had to work exceptionally hard in the first half of their match against Victoria Park, but fitness, composure and self-belief enabled the team to win convincingly by 5-2. The final match of the season on Webster is generally one that is met with mixed emotions, as the Matrics play their last matches, in what, has been a very successful season for the team. The script could not have been better written, as College deservedly scored early through Ross Vides which settled the nerves, and allowed the players to express themselves in front of their home support.

James Marriner, was once again superbly hard-working in the midfield, and it was his effort to tackle back, show composure and to feed David Harvey, who played a wonderful first-time pass which led to Peter Jarvis scoring. A third goal was added from a penalty corner to ensure a convincing win to end a memorable season.

Well done to the players, and thanks to everyone in the community for the support which the team has enjoyed this season.
