A win for College against Marlow

On Saturday College rugby players set out on an early, wet and very cold morning bus trip to Cradock to take on Marlow. It took some time for the boys to warm up and the earlier results show this. However as the sun tried to push through so did the performance of the St Andrew’s players.

The main game started at a frantic pace with Marlow firing from the start. Marlow got on the score board with an early penalty. This was followed up by a break away try from a chip kick that fell into their wings hands. They then pulled off a great line out move and the score was 17 – 0 for the hosts after 15 minutes. College pulled together and started to get the upper hand and were awarded a penalty try after a line out mall was collapsed. Anthony Dakin then scored a try following some good attacking pressure to take the half time score to 14 – 17.

The second half was a tight affair with both teams trying to play running rugby in mucky, cold conditions. We scored first through a great run by Ross Ferguson. They then scored again to regain the lead 21 – 24. The final few minutes of games haven’t been kind to the St Andrew’s boys this season, with many close losses. However St Andrew’s College produced a wonderful display of skill and handling to score the winning try by Tim Bloem in the corner. This proved to be the last play of the day with us winning 26 – 24.

Special mention has to go the U15C team who won their first game of the season. Well done the mighty ducks.
