Yesterday we hosted a touring team from UK – Loughborough Grammar school. In the first game we put out our traditional Thistles team against their second team. It was a comfortable win for our young team who were clearly too strong for their opposition. A number of positional changes were tried, one of them resulted in Jack Allanson getting a hatrick from fullback. Tristan Cook had his best game for College, Kelvin the human torpedo didn’t disappoint and Matt More was excellent.
The first team came up against a fired up opponent and the game was very close after the first 15 minutes. The conditions were very muddy and slippery but the boys slowly came to grips with this. The highlight of the first half had to be Tim Bloem’s run away try after collecting a great cross grubber from Murray Long. The game got away from Loughborough the more it went on with the College boys fronting up to the physicality and scoring some beautiful tries. The last five minutes were memorable as the touring team desperately tried to score a try with their small but passionate crowd being drowned out by the College boys on the stands. The players felt this and kept digging deep, Loughborough never managed to cross the line and Xolile Mdlokovana finished the game with a great try.
We won both games convincingly and it was a great afternoon of rugby!
