Pipe Band Tour

On Saturday the 2nd of May the Pipe Band participated in the annual South Coast Highland Gathering in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal.

This championship event attracts the top bands in the country, the result of which is fierce competition and an extremely high playing standard.

The band arrived in Natal on Tuesday the 28th of April and spent the remainder of the week practicing at the Natal Mounted Rifles barracks in the shadow of the magnificent Moses Mabhida stadium.

The band was fortunate during these rehearsals to be under the watchful eye of Mr Thomas Fuller (OA) and Mr Dewar Van Dijk both of whom are members of the 1st Medical Battalion Pipe Band.

College competed in two categories in the band completion, namely juvenile and grade 4. College was the only school band competing in the grade 4 event.

In the Juvenile section we were placed 2nd in the Medley Selection and 4th in the MSR.

In Grade 4 we were placed 6th in the MSR and 1st in the March Selection.

There were also solo events at the gathering in which:

– Start Hobson was placed 3rd in both the gold and silver piobaireachd.

– Callum Southey was placed 2nd in the under-17 march.

– Uli Ratsibe was placed 3rd in the junior tenor drumming.
