Over the holidays a number of St Andrew’s College rowers took part in a training camp before competing at 2015 National Rowing Championships.
A total of 11 boys represented the Eastern Cape Rowing Team in a number of events:
Oscar Hobson represented the Eastern Cape Men’s A Quad and received a Silver medal. He also rowed as a substitute with the Rhodes University rowing team in the Men’s A Coxless Fours and received a Silver medal. He also participated in the South African Men’s heavyweight Four trying to qualify for the Rio Olympic games.
John Baines also represented Eastern Cape and took Silver in the U18 Coxed Four, and a Bronze in the U18 Double Scull.
The SAC U16 Squad of Henry Torr, Alex Holmes, Michael Thomas, Jake England, Joshua Warneke, Mitchel De Kock, Matthew Harris, Oscar Evans and Cox Daniel Coward where selected to represent both Eastern Cape and South African Schools Rowing Union. They started the weekend racing with a Silver medal in the U16 A pairs, Gold in both the U18 A Coxed Four and U16 A Coxed Fours buy our A and B fours respectably. The squad then tried themselves out against the best and rowed in the Senior Men’s Elite Eight, placing 9th in the heats. They only missed out on the A final by 1.5 seconds. The squad is currently in London to compete in the Bedford and Wallingford Regattas.
