Yesterday afternoon a big shipping container arrived on our campus with an exciting cargo on-board. Inside the huge container were four new Filippi rowing boats that have come all the way from Italy to their new home here at St Andrew’s College.
The boats include one single skull, two coxless pairs and one coxed four. Filippi Boats are a world class Italian manufacturer of rowing racing shells and we are privileged to have been able to acquire these new boats for our Rowing Club.
The boats have been mainly funded by the St Andrew’s College Rowing Parents Support Group. Without the support of the parents, we would not have been able to make this dream a reality. We thank them for their fundraising efforts and generosity.
Over the last 20 years, teams that have been competing in Filippi boats have won more than 400 medals at both the Olympic Games as well as at the World Championships. We hope that these boats will bring us good luck for the upcoming season as our hard-work and the sleek design of these world class boats become one.
