St Andrew’s College hosts Eastern Cape Sprints Regatta and Settlers Challenge

On Saturday St Andrew’s hosted the Eastern Cape Sprints Regatta and the Inaugural Settlers Challenge. Although there were some rough conditions the rowers started their season in good form, with a total of over 30 top three placing’s!

St Andrew’s College saw victories in the U14C quad, U14B quad, U16A pair, U1 A Single Scull, U16A and B Fours the Open third and fourth Four’s and the third Double scull with photo finishes in the second fours and third Pairs.

Furthermore St Andrew’s dominated in the Eights winning the U14A and U15A Octuplet and the U16A eight. The St Andrew’s College second eight burst out of the blocks to take a solid lead, winning there event comfortably.

The first eight had a solid race in the men’s open eight event, unfortunately having to settle for a close second to the Rhodes University Elite Eight within one second. Our U16A crew also raced this event finishing fourth by 0.15 of a second to Selborne’s first eight.

In the Inaugural Settlers Challenge – A knock out style racing, St Andrew’s College had five boats move through to the semi-finals and took the victories in the Open Single Scull and the Open pair. Unfortunately our boys where knocked out in the semi-finals in the four and the double sculls.
