St Andrew’s College Piper competes in Scotland
Pipe Major, Andrew de Blocq, from St Andrew’s College participated in an unofficial tour to Scotland during the August school holidays.
August is a busy month for piping in Scotland, during which events such as the annual Military Tattoo, the Edinburgh fringe festival and more importantly the bulk of the Highland Games take place.
Andrew played in five Highland Gatherings: The Ballater Highland Games, the Crieff Highland Games, the Glen Isla Games, The Lonach Highland Games and the Strathardle Highland Games.
He was placed third in the March, third in the Strathspey, Reel at Ballater and his third at Piobaireachd at Lonach.
Bagpipers of Andrew’s age have usually played for an average of 10 years by the time they compete at this level, compared to his three and a half, which make these achievements significant.
Between visiting historical sites such at the Willam Wallace Monument and the New Lanark Mill he attended the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow Green where the top bands in the world battle it out for the title of world champion.
