The Global Young Leaders Conference is a 10-12 day conference which takes places in USA, China and Europe.
The purpose of this conference is to bring together, from all corners of the globe, young people between the ages of 15-18 years. They come together to learn, debate and to discuss various topics ranging from politics, resolving conflict, trade current affairs, global issues, human rights and the environment, to name just some of the topics. They also have an opportunity to visit places of interest. Groups are assigned a mentor for the programme and the programme is controlled, structured and well-planned. During the 2nd term half term Marcel Bovijn embarked on the trip to China with over 190 other students from around the world.
Marcel writes "The trip took place over 12 days and was held in three of China's major cities Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai. We visited a number of Chinese landmarks and tourist attractions while getting to meet new people from all over the world and learning important leadership attributes. This was done through leadership discussions in groups as well as meetings with important people in the Chinese government e.g. the Chinese foreign affairs minister. The trip was an amazing experience, I met people from all over the world, learning about leadership in all its forms while integrating myself in the Chinese culture and experiencing all that China has to offer from seeing the pandas at the Beijing Zoo to trying traditional Chinese Peking duck at one of the oldest restaurants in China."
