The Tiger Titans - which was started by a St Andrews College Matric boy, Ross McCreath, as part of his involvement in The President's Award for Youth Empowerment - won 1st prize in the Murray & Roberts Jack Cheetham Award last year, supporting the development of the Tiger Titans with R100,000 a year for a period of 5 years. Significantly, the older Tiger Titans players are now the coaches and the umpires for the younger teams.
The Tiger Titans cricket initiative has grown to include younger boys, and now boast 90 aspirant cricketers. The 33 enrolled on The President's Award programme have been instrumental in assisting with the coaching of the younger group, as part of their service component of the Award.
The new breed of Tiger Titans came roaring in to town this week. Both the new U11 and U13 teams played their first match ever against St Andrews Prep.
The two games got off to decidedly different starts. Both matches saw the Tiger Titans in to bat ... in the first over of the U13 match, 15 runs were scored, including two 4s, a 6 and a wide! In the first over in the U11 match, there were 3 wickets!
This is really inspirational stuff!
