Excerpts from the Headmaster's Speech to New Boys and Parents - January 2011

Welcome to College.

You arrive at St Andrew's at a very exciting time. The school is full, the morale is high and the achievements of the 2010 matric class across the academic, sporting and cultural spheres were stellar.

Demand for places at the school is high and families from all over Africa and beyond have sought entry into College.

For a new boy, it will all seem bewildering at the start, but you must throw yourself into your new life at College with energy and enthusiasm. There is so much here that is available to you, whether it is on the sports field, in societies, in community service, in the cultural activities, in the boarding houses. It is an entirely new start for you, and really whether you were successful or not at primary school, has little bearing on what happens in high school, because you are embarking on an entirely new phase on what will hopefully be a thrilling journey into manhood.

As I walked around the school this morning through the stunning new Andrean Resource Centre, past the Clock Tower and into the Houses I felt inspired by this place. Inspired by its tradition, its sense of self and the genuine warmth shown by the senior boys who greeted me. My wish for you is that you too, will be inspired by College.

I look forward to getting to know you and your parents and I wish you very happy, fulfilled years as you begin this great adventure at St Andrew's.
