Swop-a-choc: St Andrew's boys walk the streets for donations.
Boys from the President's Award at St Andrew's College distributed letters appealing for donations of stationery, puzzles, games and children's clothes in the suburbs surrounding the school on Friday, 18 February. They will return to the same areas on the 25th of February and go door-to-door to gather donations, and will exchange each donation for a small chocolate, as a token of appreciation. Donations will be distributed to foundation phase classes in Grahamstown, who have not as yet received their teaching and learning resources, or to welfare organizations which look after poor and vulnerable children. As a start to the campaign, Hodago Minney, the school's Community Engagement Prefect, organized pupils and staff to donate art materials, paper, books and stationery. Kelly Long of GADRA Education identified the needs and accompanied Minney to distribute some of the donated materials at Tantyi Lower Primary School. Mrs Stamper, the Grade One teacher in charge of a class of 71 Grade One learners, expressed gratitude and excitement at the donation of crayons, paper, pencils and books.
