College mourns tragic loss of Stuart van Oldenborgh
Date : 18th August 2011

The St Andrew’s College community is deeply shocked to hear of the news of the tragic deaths of Mr Peter van Oldenborgh and his son, Stuart, in an aeroplane crash near Tzaneen on Sunday afternoon.  Stuart, a Grade 9 pupil in Graham House, was fondly known as ‘Smiley’ by his friends, and this encapsulated his effervescent and friendly personality.  He was a highly intelligent and talented young lad who will be sorely missed by the boys and the staff at St Andrew’s College.  He was a very involved Andrean who enjoyed his Rugby.  He loved his Rowing and as a member of the Under 15 B squad he enjoyed some memorable wins at the Zwaartzkop Regatta and the Eastern Cape Championships.  He played the violin in the orchestra and sung in the Chapel Choir in Grade 8.  He said to his mother last Wednesday that he felt so proud to be part of St Andrew’s College and was really excited about receiving his ‘Five Term Tie’ next term.

Our deeply felt condolences go out to his mother, Gillian, and his younger brother, Kieran, at the dreadful time.

A Memorial Service is being held on Saturday 20 August 2011 at 11 am at the St Peter’s Preparatory School Chapel in Witkoppen Road, Sandton.

There will also be a Memorial Service in the College Chapel for the boys and staff at the beginning of the Michaelmas Term. The provisional date is Tuesday 6 September 2011 at 5:30 pm.
