University Bursary Boost with a Difference:

Impala Platinum, a massive organization in Rustenburg, recently awarded two St Andrew’s College pupils, Siviwe Gushu and Thokozana Ngculu, full bursaries to leading universities for next year. The bursary covers all costs, including accommodation and an allowance. The bursaries are more than basic financial support. Each pupil is assigned a mentor from Impala to support and guide them throughout. The bursary also includes vacation employment and guaranteed employment with Impala Platinum once they have completed their studies.

Impala Platinum (Implats), the world's second largest producer of platinum, employs over 35 000 people. The prospects and opportunities are endless.

Ondela Kiva, Human Resources Manager, interviewed the boys, who were also psychometrically assessed, as part of the application procedure.

Ngculu will be doing a BCom at Rhodes and Gushu will take Engineering at either UCT or Wits.

If the first year is passed, the bursaries continue for the following year. In their second year, they are given their own laptops.

“I feel confident that this is the beginning of a great relationship and that many of our boys could benefit from these bursaries which are primarily in the field of Engineering, Commerce and Geology,” Mrs Debbie Griffith-Smith, St Andrew’s College School Counselor said.
