The St Andrew’s College 1st X1 and Colts showed enormous spirit and determination in their respective Independent Schools Cricket Festivals over half term. The Colts enjoyed the opportunity of playing on Lower Field and came away with draws vs. St Stithians and St John’s and wins vs. St Charles and Clifton.
The St Andrew’s 1st X1 traveled to St Albans and adjusted quickly to the Highveld conditions, bowling, batting and fielding superbly and displayed their skills as a tight unit. Their efforts were well rewarded with victories at the Festival vs. Michaelhouse, Bishops, St John’s and a tour fixture victory vs. King Edward V11 School on Monday.
The team was intuitively lead by their Captain Ryan Dugmore who took wickets at key moments and held the innings’ together with mature knocks of 68, 43* and 45*. James Price bowled with great speed and determination picking up 17 wickets and an aggressive 106 vs. St John’s which included a 5 wicket haul. Michael Rushmere showed great resilience at the top of the order in tough conditions and was well rewarded with a superb 100 vs. Michaelhouse. Simon Amm’s aggressive 50’s vs. Bishops and KES gave the team vital momentum when needed. Chris Ford and Daniel Long bowled well in tandem and Damon Weeks’s bowled with consistency picking up 9 wickets on the tour. Ian Herold had a very neat tour behind the stumps taking catches and stumpings at key moments. Jonny Ford and Richard O’Mahony covered the inner ring with superb ground fielding, consistently restricting the batsman. Thanks very much to St Alban’s College and King Edwards the VII School for hosting the team in such a professional and warm manner. Well done to the 1st X1 Coach Mr. Scott Jackson and his team on a disciplined display of cricket.
