Ms Taylor studied and taught Journalism at Rhodes in the politically contentious 80s, moved to Johannesburg as media officer for the NGO Planact, and then to Harare where she worked on the anti-government magazine Horizon, moving steadily from journalism to design. She started a small and multi-faceted media design enterprise called Icon Media Consultancy. Having decided to stop work completely she was rapidly (2 weeks later) drawn into advertising design, working for amongst others, Saatchi and Saatchi, mostly in production design. A move to Cape Town saw her taking up a position as design manager at Maskew Miller Longman, where she stayed until she began her own freelance design consultancy, Cheeky Chilli. Ms Taylor has been presenting design master-classes to senior classes, interacting with design staff and students and will be presenting a public lecture entitled "Instanet vs the Snail Trail: Visual literacy explored." at 7.00pm in the Design Studio of the Arthur Cotton Design and Technology Centre, St Andrew's College this evening.

Today we welcome the prominent Cape Town designer Ms Robin Taylor, as the Designer in Residence for 2010.
