St Andrew's College pupil jets off to Lord's in England

 Ross McCreath, Grade 11, St Andrew’s College pupil has been invited to the  International Awards World Fellowship Dinner by HRH Prince Philip. He is eagerly counting down the day until he jets off to England to the world famous Lord’s Cricket Ground, home of cricket.

 

McCreath’s story began when he decided to help form a township cricket team in Bathurst a few years ago during the December holidays. He is the son of a cattle farmer from Bathurst and the “Tiger Titans” started practising on his farther’s farm. The Cricket Club has grown over the years and one of the highlights, since forming the Tiger Titans, has included being awarded second place in the Jack Cheetham Awards in 2008. The team received R50 000 which is administered through the Tiger Titans Sports Trust for the development of the team.

 

Ross became involved in the project as part of his participation in the President’s Award for Youth Empowerment Programme and has achieved the bronze and silver levels and is currently actively involved at the Gold Level.

 

Ross is one of a handful of youngster who will tell the duke and other dignitaries, including former cricket greats, about their project.

 

According to Martin Scholtz, the President’s Award Chief Executive, Ross and almost 8 000 bronze, silver and gold awards participants have clocked up 262 416 hours of community service valued at R5.2 million over the past few years.

 

St Andrew’s College head, Paul Edey said: “We are enormously proud of Ross and know that he will represent St Andrew’s College, the Eastern Cape and South Africa with dignity and aplomb.”
