The day was filled with excitement as students from St Andrew's College, DSG and Prep poured into the stands to watch the Freedom Day celebrations. The motto was "Define Your Freedom" and the audience was taken on a journey through time from 1936, when the black voters were taken off the voting roll, all the way to 1994 and 2010. Participants at the celebrations came from all over Grahamstown and the audience enjoyed the performances by the Good Shepherd Choir, Amasango Career School Gumboot dancers, speeches of great calibre by Claudia Kelly, Lakhanya Mahlati and Osa Mazwai. Prep gave a wonderful show of their Marimba Band and DSG Junior danced and gave their definitions of freedom. The Advanced Contemporary class also performed along with the Rock Band. It was a day of learning and understanding the importance of the 27th of April, Freedom Day, a day when all cultures, races and genders got their chance to vote.
