Hospice is a programme of supportive care for people with incurable illness. Their focus, for the patient and family, is on independence, comfort and quality of life.
Two St Andrew’s College pupils initiated assistance to Grahamstown Hospice. Ian Fraser-Jones from Merriman House at College was responsible for ensuring that staff and pupils bought the yellow ribbons in support of Hospice Yellow Day.
Greg Risely, also from Merriman House had a personal experience where Hospice in Johannesburg assisted his family with his father’s struggle with cancer. Greg was so inspired by the actions of Hospice that he motivated the whole house to donate old clothes to Grahamstown Hospice. His experience was felt by all those who live in Merriman House and the boys donated more than six large bags of clothes.
