NEC ASPERA TERRENT . EMBRACING NEW FRONTIERS
Inaugural DB Wylde Leadership Indaba
Date : 1st September 2008

St Andrew’s College and the Diosecan School for Girls are tapping into the wealth of leadership experience in their Old Andrean and DSG Guild networks by inviting eminent leaders to share their life experiences with the pupils.

The Inaugural Indaba will feature Philip Womersley (OA 1968) and Myles Ruck (OA 1972).  They will spend Tuesday 30 September addressing classes and interacting with pupils from DSG and St Andrew’s College.  In the evening, three matric pupils, Cameron MacKenzie, Ashleigh van der Hoven and Nandile Tabata will interview Philip and Myles in front of an audience in The Highlander, Worcester Street.

Philip Womersley is the retired Executive Chairman of Safcor Panalpina/Bidvest.  Myles Ruck currently serves on the board of Aveng Limited, Mr Price Group, Shanduka Group, Standard Bank Group Limited, The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited and is Chairman of Standard Bank, Argentina.

This initiative complements the leadership programmes at the two schools by making it real and giving pupils the opportunity to interact with successful leaders, not only in business, but in all spheres of social life.

The idea of having pupils in conversation with Philip and Myles in front of a live audience, rather than them giving speeches, allows for a more interactive experience which shifts the focus onto what the audience wants to learn from the guests.

The DB Wylde Leadership Indaba has been so named as a tribute to the extraordinary, visionary and tireless leadership of David Wylde, the outgoing Headmaster of St Andrew’s College.  It is a living monument to his leadership in education throughout his career, and particularly at St Andrew’s College over its 150 Jubilee period, where he was instrumental in inspiring the exceptional personal and financial investment of Old Andreans in the College.
