Message from the 19th Headmaster,
Mr Alan Thompson

Welcome to St Andrew’s College.

With an incredibly proud heritage dating back to 1855, St Andrew’s is steeped in rich tradition and, at the same time, is a thoroughly modern, progressive boys’ boarding school.

The curriculum is a full one, providing opportunities for boys to realise their unique gifts and pursue them with passion. The academic, sporting, and cultural aspects of the school provide a foundation of absolute excellence that is enriched further by a dynamic Christian environment.

Situated in the beautiful Eastern Cape town of Grahamstown, our school is close to Rhodes University, shops and amenities and yet, a stone’s throw away are some of the best beaches, wildlife areas, and country districts that South Africa has to offer. Outdoor education, therefore, is a key component of the College experience, including the incredible Fish River Journey, various outings in each grade, our own bush camp, and a beach shack.

From Grade 8 to Grade 12 every boy is part of a structured leadership curriculum that provides him with skills and experience in progressive, authoritative servant leadership, that he may go out from here as a young man of substance, ready to lead a life of significance.

Grahamstown is a great place to grow children, and as a microcosm of broader South Africa it provides good opportunity for our institution to partner with local schools in meaningful ways that bring together children and institutions that, by quirk of history have experienced very different pasts. Social engagement is a key component of our being citizens of Grahamstown, South Africa, and the world.

We enjoy an excellent relationship with our sister school, the Diocesan School for Girls. This not only makes Grahamstown the ideal family schooling option, but also creates many opportunities for co-operation between our schools.

I welcome you to our website which, together with our Facebook page provides some insight into the happy and productive place that is St Andrew’s College. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any more information or should you wish to arrange a visit.
