CLUBS AND SOCIETIES To further a rounded and diverse education, all boys are expected to participate actively in the cultural and extra-mural programme. At the start of the year, each boy is handed a Clubs and Societies booklet, which provides details of all the activities on offer. Each pupil is expected to become involved in these activities on at least two days each week at the allocated times. Tuesday Clubs are scheduled in the timetable. Club activities take place during quiet periods, on Friday evening, and over weekends. Community Service clubs include various community service projects, sports coaching, First Aid, and the President's Award. General interest clubs and societies include Bridge, Book Club, Chess, Computer Club, Copernicans, Current Affairs, Debating, Design and Technology, Dramatics, Film, Leather-making, Model-Building, Photography, Robotics, Student Christian Association, Weights Gym, Wildlife, Woodwork, and X-Art. Musical ensembles include the Chamber Choir, Chamber Orchestra, Chapel Choir, Jazz Band, Marimba Group, Philharmonic Society, Pipe Band, the Wind Orchestra, and the Xhosa Choir. Exploration Society activities include various outdoor expeditions, and the following clubs: Bird Watching, Canoeing, Cycling, Golf, Fishing, Kite Surfing, Rock Climbing, Scuba Diving, and Surfing. There are three 'closed' societies for senior boys. Membership is by invitation to the Alchemists, the Astronomers and Cornish clubs. The Cultural and Extra-Mural Achievements (CEMA) Committee is chaired by the Deputy Headmaster. It oversees the general programme and makes awards for achievement in all activities.
