SPORT

St Andrew's College offers a wide range of summer and winter sports to cater for all ability levels and interest groups. With excellent coaching and facilities, boys are encouraged to develop their sporting prowess, and also to enjoy and appreciate the sportsmanship, camaraderie and co-operation resulting from participation in team sports.

Boys under the age of 15 are expected to take a major sport (viz. cricket, rowing or aquatics in summer, rugby or hockey in the winter and athletics in the spring.) They may augment this with other sports such as basketball, shooting, cross country, squash, golf and tennis.

Boys engage in sport several times a week, and move gradually towards a greater degree of specialisation in their senior years.

In addition, many recreational activities such as canoeing, sailing, surfing, fly-fishing, angling, cycling, rock-climbing, and scuba-diving are offered through special interest groups and Clubs at the School.

Our pupils regularly gain provincial recognition at schoolboy level, and many go on to become well-known sporting personalities. Out staff prides itself on the solid grounding it provides for young sporting stars. The emphasis, however, is on balance and fulfilment, and, if outstanding achievement follows, this is seen as an added bonus for the pupil and the school.
