The Grade 10s Design & Technology class enjoyed a change of scenery, making a trip to Middle Beach in Kenton-on-Sea for their single focus day. Their task was to explore biophilic* in architecture. After the initial conceptualizing of ideas, they had to show their developments three-dimensionally by creating three maquettes using sand sculpturing techniques.
The aim of this medium is to stimulate and develop the three-dimensional thought process in our learners. With much space for social distancing and fresh air, the learners enjoyed the classroom for the day and took a quick swim before heading back to campus shores. Watch this space for the final products.
* Biophilic design is a concept used within the building industry to increase occupant connectivity to the natural environment through the use of direct nature, indirect nature, and space and place conditions.
How does Design fit into business? The Grade 11 Design class were tasked to investigate this question through a collection of terms relating to business practice. We return to Noom annually as this unique coffee shop resembles and apply the given terms with great success. The learners could interact with owner and interior designer, Cindy Gravante on the success of Design in business and all it entails. Of course it would not be worth the trip without a sweet deal at the coffee bar.
