On Saturday the Colts A XI took on the Scriberians in their traditional end of year test match. The Scriberians batted first and declared on 249/4. Neil Van Der Linde led from the front with a fluent 71 and was well supported by Graeme College’s 1st XI cricketer, Mornay Kohl with his organized 49. Steve Gornal then geared up the innings with a blazing 77 not out off just 52 balls. Bert White bowled superbly upfront in his tidy spell of 1/6 in 5 overs. Leg spinner Oliver Snart did very well to bowl his long spell of 14 overs and held the Colts bowling innings together.
The Colts innings started fluently with Bert White’s 22 off 35 balls. Matthew Beamish and Sibusiso Mxube looked comfortable at the crease, but a careless run out allowed the Scriberians to test the Colts’ middle order. After tea, the introduction of left-arm spin from Grant Stretton (3/22) and Gerhard Posthumus (3/8) proved too tough for the Colts. Sibusiso Mxube was left man alone on his well-played 34 not out, and the Scriberians secured a comfortable victory.
Thanks very much to all concerned for providing a wonderful day of cricket on Lower field.
