After what has been a busy term for the golfers, given that it is the only competitive sport that they have been able to play, nine St Andrew’s College golfers took part in the annual The Belmont Golf Club Championships over the past weekend. For many of them, this was the first time that they have played in a medal competition. Despite good conditions on Saturday, scores were certainly higher than usual. Heinrich van Deventer is to be commended on his score of four over par 76, which placed him in second position overnight in the A division. Nicholas Lane played well to be tied 4th after round one in the B division, with a score of 90.
On Sunday, conditions were far tougher and Heinrich was not able to put together another good round and battled his way to a final 8th position in the A division. Nicholas Lane again played well and ended the day second overall in the B division.
The Belmont awarded prizes to the following St Andrew’s College boys on the day:
Best Gross Score over the two days for a scholar – Heinrich van Deventer
Best Nett Score over the two days for a scholar – Nicholas Lane
2nd position in the B Division for the Club Championships – Nicholas Lane
Congratulations to Scott Jackson who was the overall winner of the Belmont Club Champs for 2020, with a gross total of 147 over the 2 days.
