I was a tutor in Armstrong House on my return in 2003, and was the Deputy Housemaster from 2006 to 2009. At the start of 2010 I took over van der Riet Lodge, the Grade 8 feeder house for Graham House, but after just two terms there was appointed as Housemaster of Armstrong House from September 2010. I am honoured to be afforded the privilege of leading Armstrong House - a house with great traditions of excellence in all fields, and wonderful spirit and camaraderie. It is also special for me personally to follow in the footsteps of my father, John Creese, who was Housemaster of Armstrong from 1987 to 1993. I am the Master-in-Charge of Water Polo at College, coach rugby in winter, and am or have been involved in many extramural activities such as surfing, scuba diving, skydiving, outdoor education and the Grade 11 Long Walk during my time here. We offer a huge range of sporting, cultural and extramural activities here and I believe that boys should make full use of these opportunities while they are here. I believe that for the boys the House is their home away from home, and it should be a happy and welcoming place for them. At the same time, the structure and discipline of the boarding house is important to maintain order and to help all the boys to perform to the best of their abilities. Through this, boys should develop a passion for their House, respect for its traditions, and a strong bond with all their fellow Armstrong boys, sharing their experiences and celebrating their differences and becoming the well-rounded young men we can all be proud of
I grew up in Grahamstown and am an Old Andrean, having matriculated in 1993 and completed a Post Matric year at College in 1994. I studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Cape Town and worked for Anglo American in Johannesburg as a senior metallurgist for three years until the end of 2002, when I decided on a career change and returned to Grahamstown to take up a Science teaching post at College. It was without doubt the right decision and I have never looked back - I am passionate about teaching and about guiding boys to become the best they can be.
